Petri Takkala

Petri Takkala is a PhD candidate working on understanding neural coding of somatosensory information. He uses electrophysiology, multiphoton fluorescence microscopy, and computational modeling to address his research questions. His goal is to develop a comprehensive understanding of neural coding to explore the cause of and persistence of neuropathic pain, with the aim of guiding treatment strategies for better clinical outcomes. By clearly understanding how the nervous system encodes somatosensory information we can work to design ways to change the encoding step of neural signal transmission and establish that as a physiological target in therapeutic development.
